PTSD therapy in Colorado Springs
PTSD isn't just remembering something bad. It's your nervous system treating the past like it's still happening, flashbacks, a hair-trigger startle response, avoidance that's quietly taken over parts of your life.
I'm Sarah Post Massey, a licensed marriage and family therapist in Colorado Springs, and I use EMDR, one of the most researched treatments for PTSD, to help your brain finish processing what got stuck.
Why EMDR for PTSD
PTSD symptoms often live in the body's alarm system, not just in memory. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation while you hold the memory in mind, helping your brain reprocess it through the channel it's actually stored in.
Most people feel a shift before they can fully explain why. You don't need to narrate the trauma in detail for this to work.
Weekly or intensive EMDR sessions available
I offer EMDR weekly, folded into ongoing sessions, or as an EMDR intensive: two 90-minute sessions a week for four weeks, built around your workweek instead of a full day off.
The intensive suits people who want focused, concentrated progress, including anyone working around a deployment or training schedule.
How you'll know it's working
You complete a baseline assessment before we start.
We check it again at the midpoint and the end, so progress is something you see in your own scores, not something you're told to feel.
Is this the right fit for my type of PTSD?
This tends to fit if you have a diagnosed or suspected PTSD, flashbacks, hypervigilance, or avoidance connected to a specific event or period.
If you're active duty, a veteran, or a contractor, I'm private pay and will work around your schedule to get you into an intensive when you need it.
Questions about PTSD treatment
-
Yes. EMDR is one of the most researched treatment approaches for PTSD, alongside trauma-focused CBT. It works by helping your brain reprocess stuck memories rather than by talking through them repeatedly.
-
No. You don't need a diagnosis to begin. We'll talk through your symptoms and history in the consultation and baseline assessment, and go from there.
